The 31-year-old Albanian Sindi Manushi has been elected mayor of Pieve di Cadore, in the Belluno area, in the local elections that were held on Sunday.

The young Albanian, from Elbasan, was elected head of the municipality, succeeding the predecessor Giuseppe Casagrande.

She immigrated to Italy with her family at the age of 9 and works as a lawyer. In an interview given to the Italian media, the 31-year-old woman recounted the difficult vicissitudes she and her family faced when they went to Italy.

The young Albanian said that she never denies her origin, but that she feels and enjoys the rights as an Italian citizen.
