Vehicle traffic in Albania has increased in June, while fuel consumption has also risen.

Many tourists prefer to rent cars due to the lack of orientation with public transportation. On the other hand, the decrease in oil prices has encouraged traffic.

However, this situation has led to an increase in the number of accidents. The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) reported that in June 2023, there were 101 road accidents compared to 98 that occurred in June 2022. The number of road accidents has increased by 3.1%.

Despite having more accidents, fortunately, they have resulted in fewer casualties. The number of casualties (deaths and injuries) stands at 132 people compared to 141 in June 2022.

Young people continue to be the main causes of accidents. According to INSTAT, in 82.2% of cases, road accidents have occurred due to the behavior of the driver.

The highest number of accidents during this period has been carried out by the age group of 25-34 years, accounting for 30.7% of the total number of accidents. Accidents in this age group have increased by 14.8% compared to the same period last year.

In June 2023, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Fridays with 18.8%, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Wednesdays with 8.9%.

In June 2023, 20.8% of road accidents happened during the time frame 08:00-12:00.
