Albanians do not drink alcohol compared to citizens in other countries. In the global ranking, Albania ranks 90th, out of 190 countries examined for alcohol consumption.

So, in the list published by the CIA, consumption is several times lower, regardless of perception.

The annual consumption per inhabitant is reported to be 4.4 liters, a quantity that takes Albanians far away from the first countries such as the Cook Islands, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, where the annual rate of consumption per person exceeds 12 liters.

Even in relation to the region, Albanians, together with their neighbors in North Macedonia, are less inclined to drink alcohol, while the biggest drinkers live in Montenegro. In terms of quantity, beer holds the main weight of consumption, followed by brandy and wine.

Even the official Eurostat statistics list Albania as the penultimate on the continent, leaving behind only Turkey.

Alcoholic beverages are the cheapest in Europe in North Macedonia, at 81 percent of the European average, and the most expensive in Sweden, at 219 percent of the European average.

The nominal cost of alcoholic beverages in Albania is 86 euros, while in the European Union it is 286 euros.
