The iconographic museum “Onufri” throughout this year has marked a large increase in the number of visitors who have seen the premises and iconographies up close, whose collection consists of 200 objects selected from the funds of churches and monasteries of the district of Berat.

Some of these objects date back to the 18th century, while one of the most precious things that this museum owns are the two codices of Berat that are registered in the list of important works of humanity known as “Memoire du Monde”, under the protection of UNESCO.

“For the year 2023, the Onufri iconographic museum, as a part of the Berat museum center, has a record number of visitors, as Berat also has an extraordinary influx of tourists. We have reached a record number of almost 45,000 by the time we speak, this is definitely a very optimistic figure”, said Miklor Pasku, director of the “Onufri” museum.

The tourists who visit it show the experience in this museum and in the city of one on one windows.

“I think that Berat is a nice city. In the evening it is lit up and looks fantastic. The museum here looks very original, rather like an old church, like an original place. If you look at the floor, nothing is covered, you can walk around”, says a German tourist.

Beyond the beauties, the eye of foreigners often sees what impresses them, which is unfortunately the marked pollution in the city’s streets.

Expectations for this year are high, as the managers of the museum indicate that at the end of the year, they hope to register nearly 70,000 visitors, a number that has never been recorded before.
