Who is the diplomat taking over the leadership of the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

Prime Minister Edi Rama presented during the meeting of the National Assembly of the Socialist Party, this Monday, the changes in the government cabinet.

Igli Hasani has been appointed Minister of the Foreign Ministry thus replacing Olta Xhaçka.

But who is Igli Hasani?

Igli Hasani is currently the Coordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities of the OSCE.

Before joining the OSCE, Hasani was the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Albania to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna. In January 2021, he assumed the post of Chairman of the Group of Asian Partners for Cooperation.

During the Albanian chairmanship of the OSCE, Hasani was the Chairman of the OSCE Permanent Council and chairman of the Mediterranean Contact Group as part of the OSCE Troika in 2019.

Hasani has 17 years of experience in the Ministry of Defense of Albania in various leadership roles, including as Secretary General (2017-2018), Director General for Defense Policies (2015-2017), Director of NATO and Relations with Abroad (2013-2014), and Director of Euro-Atlantic Integrations (2013-2014).

He graduated in Law, Sociology and Philosophy from the University of Tirana, Master in International Relations from King’s College in London, as well as graduated from the Royal College of Defense Studies.
