On Monday, 177 surveyors in Gjirokastra’s District will start the “Cens 2023” process by knocking on every family to perform the population census. The population census will last 6 weeks and aims to bring updated information on the number of the population, demographic composition, etc. In all seven municipalities of Gjirokastër District, special working groups operate, which will supervise and administer the progress of the population census process.

“At the moment, the surveyors’ material base has been completely divided, which is about the tablets, the identification tool, etc., which are help for the surveyor. All surveyors have been trained, they have been trained for all questionnaire modules related to demography, social modules, agriculture, economy, etc.  Also, it was emphasized that they should be careful in sensitive questions that will be asked to the residents, who should be careful in questions related to ethnicity, religion, and language. They are free declarations, as declared by all the residents, that is how they will be declared and thrown in the questionnaire”, says Martha Zhapa, regional director of INSTAT Gjirokastra.

During the development of the questionnaire, answers about ethnicity, language and religious affiliation are optional and at the request of the citizens. The development of “Cens 2023” is important not only for statistical information but also for the data that support the development policies of the country’s regions.
