Kosovo’s Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla announced on Wednesday that one of the individuals killed in the Banjska incident on September 24 has been identified as Bojan Mijailović, a security guard for Aleksandar Vulin, the head of Serbia’s Security and Information Agency [BIA], during Vulin’s visit to Kosovo in 2013.

The Banjska incident, which took place near the Banjska Monastery in Zvecan, involved an armed confrontation between the Kosovo Police and an armed group. The exchange resulted in the deaths of a Kosovo Police officer and three attackers, and Kosovo has labeled this event as a terrorist attack.

Zvecan, along with three other municipalities in the north, has a predominantly Serbian population.

Minister Sveçla asserted that “the state of Serbia is actively engaged in this terrorist attack with the aim of destabilizing the Republic of Kosovo”. He also claimed that there is formal and structural evidence linking Aleksandar Vučić’s involvement in the Banjska attack, citing Milan Radojičić, the vice president of the Serb List, and Aleksandar Vučić’s bodyguard and head of the BIA. Both Radojičić and Vučić have been placed on the US blacklist. Sveçla emphasized that these individuals are among the closest associates of the President of Serbia.

A day prior, Minister Sveçla had alleged that Milan Radojičić, Deputy Chairman of the Serb List, the largest political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, had organized and participated in the attacks. He even shared drone footage purporting to show Radojičić armed, alongside a group of armed men, all donning uniforms.

In Serbia, Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić remarked that it is evident the video footage does not correspond to the day of the attacks in northern Kosovo. Dačić stated that he lacks information on whether Radojičić appears in the video material.

The attacks against the Kosovo Police have drawn condemnation from the United States and the European Union, with calls for the responsible individuals to face justice.
