Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced significant developments in the country’s security sector during his two and a half years in office.

He revealed that his government has doubled the budget allocated to the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) and recruited approximately 2,000 new soldiers.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Kurti highlighted these achievements, emphasizing that the FSK has witnessed substantial growth under his leadership. He stated, “We have successfully enlisted 1,852 young soldiers, which has increased the overall number of servicemen by over two-thirds. Our armed forces are now more professional and better equipped than ever before, thanks to the training of 3,325 soldiers in professional programs overseas. Furthermore, our investments in armaments have surged by an impressive 191%. We’ve even expanded our military arsenal by adding the highly-regarded Bayraktar combat drones”.

Kosovo is currently in the midst of a transformative process, working to transition the Kosovo Security Force into a fully-fledged army. This transformation initiative, which commenced in 2018, is expected to span a decade.

One significant milestone occurred in March 2022 when the Kosovo Security Force, in partnership with U.S. forces, participated in its first international peacekeeping mission.

Additionally, Kosovo has established agreements with the United Kingdom for joint military engagement in various missions, demonstrating the country’s commitment to international security efforts.
