President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, calls on Serbia to implement the agreements reached so far between Kosovo and Serbia.

During a visit to Belgrade, the leader of the commission stated that “the violent attack of September 24 in the north of Kosovo is completely unacceptable and the authorities must bring the perpetrators to justice. This is crucial for both parties to engage in the path of normalization”.

Also, Von der Leyen stressed that Serbia should support the statute of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo, and Kosovo should implement it.

Asked about the de-facto recognition of Kosovo’s independence by Serbia, she stated that this is included in the Ohrid agreement reached in March between Belgrade and Pristina with the mediation of the EU and that this agreement includes various steps such as the recognition of Kosovo’s documents in Serbia.

Von der Leyen said that this also goes with the establishment of the Association, which Kosovo must implement.

“This will pave the way for the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo. It is a necessary prerequisite for the European path”, she said.
