The signing of the petition for the dismissal of the mayor of the North Mitrovica Municipality, Erden Atiq, has been announced by the initiator group of the petition.

As Sanja Kërtinić, one of the initiators, said, the number of required signatures “has been exceeded”. For the initiative to be considered successful in North Mitrovica, 3 signatures or 640 percent of the electorate must be collected.

“We have completed the process. We will have the results on Monday. We are very satisfied with the process”, she said on Friday afternoon for KOHEN.

In the administrative instruction made this year, 20 percent of the registered voters must sign the petition, in order to bring the process for the removal of the mayor from office to a vote. In this case, in North Mitrovica, the number of voters is: 18,199. According to calculations, 3,640 voters make up 20% of the electorate. If the signature of the petition is confirmed by at least 20 percent of the registered voters, in the voting process at least 50 percent must vote in favor to remove the president.

10 days ago, this municipality did not accept the request of a group to be registered as an initiator group for the collection of signatures for the dismissal of Erden Atiq.

The Administrative Instruction for the dismissal of mayors by petition was approved after, through protests, northern Serbs opposed the election of local authorities who received the mandate in the electoral process, which was boycotted by Lista Serbe.
