From February 5, the price of the car license will increase. This is the latest announcement from the Road Service and Transport Directorate and it is about the price of the license card and not the driving school fee. The price for this document increases from 3500 to 4500 lek.
The Directorate of Road Transport argues that the increase is related to the extension of the validity period of the licenses, while the representation of driving schools at the national level does not contest this change but also shows the other costs why the price increases and the driving schools are not profitable in no part of the process of equipping individuals with a driving license.
At the same time, there will be a revision of the fees for the retesters. Until now, retests can be performed in 5 sessions with a fee of 400 lek, while with the latest changes the fee increases.
Until now, patents were valid for 10 years, while with the new term they have been extended up to 15 years.
With this legal change, which entered into force in 2023, the beneficiaries are about 80,000 drivers who were on the verge of expiring.
A year ago, driving schools also asked for a doubling of the price of the course, but due to the debates and the investigation launched by the Competition Authority, the initiative remained suspended.
