In the country’s education system, there are only about 100 Roma students in high schools and 3 in universities. Community representatives say that the high costs of education are the main reason for the drop in the number of students.

The number of Roma and Egyptian students who decide to attend general secondary education or university is decreasing year by year.

For the academic year 2023-2024, applications have been opened for Roma and Egyptian students at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels in the accredited universities of Tirana, Elbasan, Korçë, Vlorë, Gjirokastër and Shkodër, who are part of the aid projects for these children, who have declared their ethnicity.

Children from mainly Roma and Egyptian families remain without enrolling in school or attending university, due to family displacement from one residential center to another, as well as economic reasons.
