The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has said that Kosovo stands by Ukraine on the second anniversary of its invasion by Russia, underlining that “we know what it is like to pay the highest price for freedom”.

“We know the pain of losing innocent children; on sexual violence in war; for mass graves with the remains of our loved ones. But freedom triumphed and will triumph again. Long live Ukraine”, Osmani wrote on the X social network.

Today marks two years since Russia launched its unprovoked and illegal invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

As a result of this war, thousands of people have died, millions more have been displaced and the material damages are increasing.

Kosovo has sheltered dozens of Ukrainian journalists since the beginning of the Russian occupation of Ukraine.

Kosovo is also part of the European Union’s sanctions against Russia due to its war of aggression in Ukraine.

In August 2023, Osmani had said that she expects Ukraine to make a “bold” decision to establish bilateral relations with Kosovo, during a speech on the occasion of marking the Independence Day of Ukraine in Pristina.

Ukraine does not recognize Kosovo’s independence, which Pristina declared in February 2008, nearly a decade after the country was liberated from Serbian occupation.
