European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs discussed the project-report on Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia.
MEPs supported opening membership negotiations, while expressing their concern over the polarized political climate in the country.
Euronews Albania journalist and correspondent in Brussels, Ernest Bunguri, said that the project report is based mainly on recent key findings from the European Commission’s progress report.
In addition, Bunguri said that MEPs positively evaluated Albania’s progress, but the remaining prerequisites that would give the green light to the first Intergovernmental Conference are the functioning Constitutional Court and the Law on the Media.
“The main point discussed about Albania was the polarized political climate, that was also mentioned in the Commission’s report”.
The last EU Summit, which is to take place on Thursday and Friday in Brussels, Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to insist on the approval of the negotiating framework and conclusions for enlargement.
“The Balkans are not included in the official agenda of discussion during this summit, neither for the conclusions on enlargement countries, nor the negotiating framework for Albania and North Macedonia”, concluded Bunguri.
