Road accidents continue to bleed the country’s roads. From year to year their number is increasing.

According to data published by INSTAT, in the first 3 months of 2024, 337 road accidents were registered, out of 263 that occurred in the first period of 2023, thus marking a 43.3% increase in accidents only for this three month period.

107 accidents with 147 injured people, some resulting in death, occurred in the month of March alone.

Statistics experts indicate that during the first quarter of 2024, the death rate in road accidents is 9 per 100 accidents, while in the same period a year ago it was 17.5 per 100 road accidents.

The drivers are the cause of the accident in 87.9% of the cases, according to the age group, most of them are 25-34 years old.

Accidents have occurred on all the roads of Albania, excluding the district of Dibra, which is the only one that has not had any accidents throughout March, while Tirana and Lezha lead with the highest number of accidents.

What experts have highlighted is that midday is the period in which most accidents are registered.
