The Assembly of Kosovo held this Wednesday a solemn session in honor of Liberation Day, when NATO peacekeeping forces entered Kosovo, marking the end of the war and the liberation of the country.

In her speech to the Assembly, the President of the country, Vjosa Osmani, described NATO’s entry into Kosovo not only as a military victory and the capitulation of Serbia, but a triumph of the human spirit over tyranny.

“NATO’s entry into Kosovo was proof of the power of international solidarity. Freedom is more than words, it is the essence of our being, the air we breathe, the dream we dared to dream and the future we aspired for and for which our liberators fought and gave their lives. The entry of NATO was not simply a military victory and the capitulation of Milosevic Serbia, it was a triumph of the human spirit over tyranny,” Osmani said.

Osmani also emphasized that today Kosovo deserves to be part of the NATO alliance.

She appreciated Kosovo’s partnership and alliances with internationals, which she said should not be taken for granted but should be maintained.

The President of Kosovo also stopped at the key figures who played an important role in the country’s struggle for independence.

She mentioned “the resistance of the former president Ibrahim Rugova, the heroism of the legendary commander Adem Jashari and all the martyrs of the Kosovo Liberation Army”.
