2.8% of the Albanian population over 15 years old is addicted to alcohol. This fact was published by the World Health Organization on the day against substance abuse.

The last data at the global level belong to the year 2019.

According to the WHO, Europe is the region with the highest level of alcohol consumption at 9.2 liters per capita.

As for Albania, it is observed that 50.2% of the population is a consumer of alcohol. The problem is its consumption at young ages, with 22% of the 15-19 age group consumers.

In Albania, the consumption per capita reaches 5.1 liters in the population. While for men it reaches 8.4 liters and for women 1.9 liters per capita.

According to the report, the consumption of this drink reaches the value of 39.6%, followed by strong drinks with 34.1% and wine with 24.5%

What the experts notice and concern is the impact of alcohol on disease and mortality. It has been seen that in Albania, 4.2% of all deaths are caused by alcohol.

Globally, 2.6 million people die every year due to alcohol consumption.
