The Ambassador of the United States of America in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has expressed concern about some political decisions of Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his cabinet.
However, the American diplomat reconfirmed the US commitment to Kosovo.
“Sometimes I feel like you all want to be a psychiatrist and diagnose some mental illness or something. There are many people who spend time worrying about this issue. I want to say what I always say. The commitment of the United States of America to the people of Kosovo is strong and iron as always, and that is why I am here today with the mayor of Gjakova to talk and advance the segments that advance economic growth and jobs and to meet with community representatives on what the government can do more for them. I have often said: we were with the people of Kosovo, we are with the people of Kosovo and we will be with the people of Kosovo. This does not mean that we will agree with every solution made by every Government of Kosovo. My government together with some partners we work with, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the European Union, we have some concerns about some political solutions that the Kurti Government has made, which make it impossible to achieve “, declared Hovenier.
Ambassador Hovenier sent a clear message to Albin Kurti’s government that it should not adopt laws that are not in line with European norms.
During his stay in Gjakova, Ambassador Hovenier, together with the mayor of this municipality, Ardian Gjini, also visited the minority communities living in this city.
