Summer has been scorching for the second year in our country.  Its negative effects have mainly affected the agricultural sector, causing farmers to end up with losses, despite their expenses and efforts. Yzeir Xhika from the village of Shtëpanjë in the Municipality of Cërrik, says that the areas planted with grapes and apples have been damaged.

The 66-year-old says that the apple variety he planted needs cool temperatures.

“It’s been 20 years since I’ve planted apples, I haven’t had any bad results, but this warming or more heat. Spraying requires a lot, but since I make apple vinegar, I haven’t sprayed at all for 7 years”, Yzeir Xhika – Farmer.

The lack of irrigation remains a problem for the Cërrik farmer.

“Drought took its toll this year, but a lucky hailstorm also took its toll.  If the barrage of spara damages for vinegar at baking time, but the fortunes fell, the worm. It will fall because if the spraying is done, there will be crime. I make vinegar, but for years and this year I can’t make vinegar because I have very little”, said the farmer.

Other farmers in the area also talk about the damage that agricultural crops are suffering as a result of the heat of the last few years.

“Even in the years to come, it will be a problem because the air is cancerous, it is drying the olive, it is drying the pear, the plum, from the branch. Yes, this is cancerous, the heat will do its job.”

In addition to the heat, Cërrik this year was also affected by the storm and hail of July and August.
