Farmers of Kreshpanj village located in Korça city known for growing beans this season due to weather conditions have lost more than 70% of the production of bean varieties.
Some of the farmers have left the planted areas unharvested, as the production was not productive.
“The reason is the high temperatures and it didn’t work. It’s not worth picking. We will simply release the branch, otherwise there is nothing. It will be the same as the bean used to be. It is low yield everywhere. With 0 this year. Poor quality. With a loss, with 0. Land for rent, plowing, high cost, no result, it is headed for bankruptcy”, says a farmer.
“This year we got a low yield due to the drought. Where Korça had seen 37 degrees, plus the disease subsided, I put medicine three times and still no. They leave it without picking because there are no beans”, says another.
Fatmir Ferhatllari, one of the farmers with the largest cultivated area of beans, says that the low yield does not endanger the price increase, as the quality is also poor.
In the village of Kreshpanj, more than 30 hectares of classic beans and nearly 5 hectares of broad beans have been planted.
