The income of Albanians from working abroad reached the highest historical level this year. In the first six months, they reached 298 million euros, an increase of 18% compared to the same period last year.

These revenues have helped narrow the current account deficit and improve foreign exchange inflows. In net terms, deducting the income of foreigners from work in Albania, the amount reached 278 million euros, an increase of 20%.

Foreign employment income includes the wages and other benefits of individuals who work for a short period, such as seasonal or frontier workers. These revenues are often combined with remittances from immigrants, which for this period reached 510 million euros, bringing the total to 808 million euros, an increase of 16%.

Income from labor and remittances covered about 31% of the trade deficit.

In addition to income from abroad, important inflows into the economy are brought by enterprises operating in the processing industry of vegetables, otherwise known as fason.

The sector generated 358 million euros in the first six months of this year, a decrease of 9% compared to last year.

In the last two years, businesses in the fashion industry have received strong blows due to the strengthening of the lek against the euro, increasing the burden of costs and the loss of value in ordering contracts.
