The increase in pensions by 20% has been welcomed by pensioners. However, they say this increase is not enough.

“It is not enough. Another thing is how much we need, another thing is the opportunity. This is the biggest increase in pensions that has been made in Kosovo”, said a citizen.

Some of them see it as part of the electoral campaign, considering that the date of the elections has already been determined.

“How can we solve the debts problem with it, it’s something done for the campaign”

The opposition also says that this government decision is a campaign and the growth is insufficient.

“It is a populist tactic of Albin Kurti”, said Ardian Kastrati – Democratic Party of Kosovo.

“Why do pensions increase after four years in power?  Why didn’t they rise when inflation peaked in late 2022 and early 2023?  This is not real growth. This increase does not even cover the real devaluation due to inflation”, said Avdullah Hoti, from the Democratic League of Kosovo.

“The increase in pensions by the outgoing Government is a fraud. This deception exposes the face of these people that goes beyond humanity because it contains the message of fraud in the exchange of votes for one of the most sensitive categories of society, pensioners”, said Ramush Haradinaj, the chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.

In addition to seeing it as part of the campaign, there have been rumors from the opposition that they see this decision by Prime Minister Albin Kurti as a way to cover up the decision to lift the measures for Serbian goods, which began to be implemented on Tuesday only at the border point of Merdara.
