Albania will open the first group-chapter of its membership in the European Union on Wednesday in Luxembourg.

European Council has revealed the agenda of the inter-ministerial meeting, where the judicial system, fundamental rights, justice, freedom and security, as well as public procurement and financial control will be discussed.

Following the presentation of the revised methodology for the accession negotiations in 2020, the negotiating chapters are divided into six thematic groups: Basics; Internal market; Competitiveness and inclusive growth; Green agenda and sustainable links; Resources, agriculture and cohesion; and foreign relations.

Negotiations for the Basics group are opened first and closed last. Progress in this group will determine the overall pace of negotiations.

After the separation from North Macedonia, Albania takes a step forward in joining the European Union.

Prime Minister Rama will be present for the opening of the first group-chapter tomorrow in Luxembourg, who will participate in the conference that will be held on this issue at 9:25.

Agenda:

08:00 – Opening of the Intergovernmental Conference

Opening of talks with the EU on Group-chapters – Fundamentals.

09:40 – Joint press conference.
