The ship “Libra” of the Italian Navy has headed towards Albania to bring the first group of migrants to the centers set up to undergo accelerated border procedures.
The news is reported by the Italian news agency ANSA, which clarifies that “an initial check was carried out on board of the persons to be transferred, to verify if they meet the required requirements: coming from safe countries, male.
Last week, the centers in Shengjin and Gjadër were put into operation and will accommodate migrants transferred based on the agreement that was signed a while ago between Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.
In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica 2 days ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the construction and management of the migrant centers in both of the structures erected have nothing to do with the Albanian government. Also, he says that no migrant will be able to leave these structures.
“The agreement stipulates that migrants cannot leave the camp and travel freely to Albania. If this were to happen, an agreed action plan would be set in motion, our security and justice institutions and agencies have worked closely together for years to fight organized crime. I will worry if and when there is reason to worry, and only if Italy asks us to share the worry. Until then, I am not worried”, said Rama.
