The government will impose a new tax on daily rental apartments. It will be 20 euros per year for each bed placed in these structures.

Owners of apartments for daily rent will pay a flat tax. It will be 20 euros per year for each bed in the initial phase and will increase to 50 euros in later phases.

Also, the owners or operators of these short-term rental structures, who often do not declare their income, will be under the monitoring of a task force to curb the informal economy.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, in 2023, over 18,200 short-term rental units, which have 176,000 beds, have been identified on the “Booking” and “Airbnb” platforms. From this payment alone, the government plans to collect 14.4 million euros by 2030.

Also, the income from hotel accommodation taxes is expected to reach 70.5 million euros in 2030, from 22 million that are currently there.

In total, the new fiscal measures and the formalization of the sector are expected to bring to the state coffers up to 85 million euros per year.

With the strategy submitted for consultation, the Ministry of Tourism will create a platform for registering tourists and nights of stay in real time, aiming to increase tourism revenues up to 6.6 billion euros in 2030.
