The meeting of the leadership of the Freedom Party (PL), held this Monday, has ended, where the arrest of the President of PL, Ilir Meta, was discussed.

PL MPs have strongly condemned Meta’s arrest, describing it as a serious terrorist and criminal act. According to them, the arrest of the former President of Albania is a political arrest, made without evidence and facts.

At the end of the decisions taken, PL has announced that it will continue the political action in the field to denounce criminality and to offer a better governance opportunity.

Position of the leadership of the Freedom Party

The leadership of the Freedom Party, gathered tonight on October 21, 2024, expresses its position as follows:

1. Condemns with the utmost severity the very serious terrorist criminal act of kidnapping and political arrest, unlawfully, violently and in flagrant violation of human dignity and a citizen of a high public figure, such as the former Prime Minister, the former Speaker of the Assembly, the former President of the Republic and the current President of the Freedom Party, Mr. Ilir Meta.
2. This criminal terrorist act ordered by Edi Rama in the Congress of the Socialist Party and implemented today by the criminal terrorist structure SPAK, confirms what we have denounced for a long time, that the rule of law has fallen in Albania and that the justice system is caught by the throat and operates according to a direction, only for the sake of the electoral and political interests of Narkoshtet and Edi Rama.
3. The political arrest of the President of the Freedom Party, Mr. Ilir Meta, without facts, without evidence and without evidence, confirms that justice does not work on the basis of constitutional and legal principles, but on the basis of hatred, primitive revenge, political orders and police methods of a dictatorial state.
4. Edi Rama and Altin Dumani, with today’s terrorist act, have crossed the red lines by declaring open war on the opposition, with the aim of destroying it, political pluralism and democracy.
5. The President of the Freedom Party, Mr. Ilir Meta, is today a political prisoner due to his very right institutional, political, patriotic and civic positions in defense of the national interest and sovereignty of the Republic of Albania, of the issue of the Sea and the uncompromising defense of Kosovo’s borders, as well as because of the uncompromising denunciation of the incrimination and schizophrenic corruption of Edi Rama, Narkostate and Narco-Justice.
6. The Political Presidency of the Freedom Party expressing full solidarity with the politically imprisoned President, Mr. Ilir Meta, continues political activity under his leadership regardless of his legal status.
7. The Freedom Party is determined to multiply its political and on-the-ground action to denounce the crimes and schizophrenic corruption of Narkoshtet, to offer a good governance, fair and humane alternative to all Albanians through its 5 Priorities for 4 million Albanians plus.
