This Wednesday afternoon, the review of the request by SPAK (Prosecutor’s Office) for the security measure “prison arrest” for the former president, Ilir Meta, was completed.

GJKKO (Special Court Against Crime and Corruption) has decided to leave in effect the measure of prison arrest for Meta, not to change the measures for Monika Kryemadhi and E. Ç., while it has changed the measure for P. Xh., changing it from “house arrest” to “obligation to appear”.

The session, which lasted about 4 hours, after it started at 1:30 p.m., evaluated the conditions for the implementation of the security measures imposed on Meta, as far as the CEZ DIA case is concerned, the Meta family’s property investigation, but also the lobbying of former – LSI in the USA.

Meta and Kryemadhi defended themselves before judge Erjon Çela, while the prosecution was represented by 3 prosecutors: Altin Dumani, Arben Kraja and Sotir Kllapi.

Meta has been under house arrest since Monday at noon, deputy Kryemadhi and E.Ç., are under obligation to appear, while Piro Xixho is under house arrest.

Their defense attorneys requested time from GJKKO to familiarize themselves with the investigative documents, so the session was interrupted for three hours, to resume at noon.

It is known that the former president Meta has chosen to give himself before the court, and not through the lawyer, the explanations on the investigative materials and the suspected corruption episodes presented in the decision of the GJKKO on the measures of arrest. It is known that Meta continued with these explanations for about two hours.

After him, MP Kryemadhi also started to give her own explanations in front of the court, without the representative intervention of the lawyer.

Meta and Kryemadhi have characterized the case against them as politically motivated and as an attack against the opposition by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Other opposition politicians have taken the same position. Meanwhile, the United States of America once again emphasized its support for SPAK’s efforts against high-level corruption.

Former president Meta and MP Kryemadhi are suspected that, cooperating with each other and with other state functionaries, in several episodes starting 15 years ago, they used their state and political positions to favor private companies, as well as in the activities of others with lobbying in the USA and the sale and purchase of houses in exchange for the benefit of significant sums of money, which they tried to hide, by not declaring them to the ILDKPI and the CEC.
