“Shadow – Eurydice says”, by the winner of the “Nobel” Prize Elfride Jelinek, was shown to the Albanian public on October 28 at the National Experimental Theater “Kujtim Spahivogli” as part of the Austrian Cultural Week.

The show, which basically shows the freedom of women, came through the dialogue and monologue of the actresses Adriana Tolka, Albana Kocaj, Flobensa Bezari and under the direction of the Austrian director Sabine Mitterecker.

The internal revolt that goes to the dimensions of freedom is the special feature of this work, which comes for the first time in Albania.

The play of the actresses and the director are in function of the work, where the ancient Greek identity combined with the modern one is done to introduce the spectator to the feeling that the characters give.

Orpheus and Eurydice are the epitome of lovers. When Eurydice dies prematurely after being bitten by a snake, Orpheus enters the underworld to bring her back to life, enchanting Hades with his music.

Ancient Greek myth and modern female reality are closely intertwined in Elfriede Jelinek’s text, which speaks to us from the perspective of an unexpected voice.
