A criminal group that trafficked the narcotic cannabis sativa to Greece and helped migrants cross the border illegally, for a fee, has been busted in a wide-ranging police operation completed by Gjirokastra police. This group has been investigated for more than a year, using proactive investigation methods and cooperating with the Prosecutor’s Office of Gjirokastra.
As part of the operation, security measures were implemented for 6 citizens, who were accused of drug trafficking and assistance in illegal border crossing.
During the investigations, considerable assets were seized, including large sums of money, ammunition and forged documents.
The criminal group had a well-organized structure and allegedly helped migrants cross the Greek-Albanian border through illegal routes, while at the same time engaged in narcotics trafficking to secure finances.
Arrested citizens:
- P. L., 49 years old, resident of Tepelena, suspected of “Trafficking in narcotics” and as the organizer of the criminal offense.
- Y. Ç., 55 years old, resident of Tepelena, suspected of “Helping to illegally cross borders”.
- V. Z., 52 years old, resident of Libohova, suspected of “Trafficking in narcotics” and “Aiding illegal border crossing”.
- A. S., 54 years old, resident of Gjirokastra, suspected of “Assistance for illegal border crossing”, who is currently in custody for a similar crime.
Also, security measures were implemented for two other citizens:
- V. Ç., 58 years old and S. Ç., 51 years old, both residents of Libohova, suspected of “Narcotics Trafficking”.
Wanted persons:
- E. N., 40 years old, resident of Gjirokastra, for “Trafficking in narcotics” and “Aiding for illegal border crossing”, who is currently under arrest in Greece.
- A. N., 54 years old, K. M., 32 years old, A. Sh., 23 years old and L. H., 32 years old, who are wanted for “Trafficking in narcotics” and have the measure “House Arrest”.
The procedural materials have been submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance in Gjirokastra for further action.
