Five years since the tragic earthquake of November 26, 2019, where 51 citizens lost their lives and over 1,000 others were injured, the consequences it left behind are still felt in many families.

The reconstruction process is not considered closed, as the works continue in some areas of the most affected city, Durrës.

Meanwhile, many families continue to be treated with the rent bonus.

The most affected municipality, that of Durrës, has released data on what stage the reconstruction is at.
So far, over 90% of buildings with DS3 and DS4 damage have been reconstructed, while 10% are in the process of reinforcement. In 44 damaged schools, the works have been completed, with the exception of some cases, such as the “Gjergj Kastrioti” gymnasium, where the works have been suspended due to archaeological discoveries.

The mayor of this municipality said that house keys will be distributed to families who have not yet received them.

Despite the completion of a part of the construction of educational institutions, the reconstruction process is expected to last until 2026. Even for the next two years, 5 billion lek are foreseen in the budget to be spent on reconstruction.
