The US envoy in Tirana, Nancy Van Horn, participated in the IKP and KPK conference, held after 7 years of vetting.

Van Horn emphasized that all Albanians should be proud of the achievements of the justice system, while he called on SPAK (Special Prosecutors’ Office) to continue investigating corruption in the country.

“Albanians should be proud of the achievements. You should be proud of how much justice has progressed in Albania. SPAK should continue to investigate the most sensitive cases of corruption”, stressed the diplomat.

“You have set a standard that is held as an example not only in Europe but also in other countries. Difficult process, but promising for a fairer society for all citizens. There was resistance to justice reform and this continues today in some countries. Commissioners have made great sacrifices as professionals. Even personal, they have taken unpopular decisions. They have shown extraordinary courage to face the revenge for these dismissal decisions”.

Chargé d’affaires at the embassy of the United States of America in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn stated today that there has been resistance to justice reform and that this resistance continues in some countries even today.

“We celebrate this great milestone of the Vetting bodies’ achievements today. The reassessment is not over, the demand of the Albanian people for justice is as strong as in 2016, this is thanks to your work. Prosecutors in SPAK are fighting to bring crime bosses and high-ranking corrupt figures to justice. I urge all of you who are here today to feel proud of these achievements”.

You have to keep working against any obstacles, we have been with you since 2016 and we are starting to see the impact of justice. Continue this progress against corruption”, emphasized Van Horn.
