The Special Prosecution Office has announced that the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is being questioned in relation to four offences, active and passive corruption, laundering of proceeds of crime and concealment of assets. According to SPAK, the denunciation for Veliaj was made by a person named Nesti Angoni. A day earlier, Veliaj said that Nesti Angoni is an anonymous person who does not exist in the Civil Registry offices.
Albania will open four new embassies in 2025. Foreign Minister Igli Hasani said the new embassies will be in Bosnia-Herzegovina, India, Indonesia, and Kenya, with the aim of increasing Albania’s cooperation with these countries.
Over 8500 cyber attacks have been registered during the past year. The Director of Cyber Incident Monitoring, Esmeralda Kazia, says that most of the attacks are related to financial fraud and data theft. She called on citizens to be careful with the online sites they use.
The first case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Kosovo. According to doctors in Pristina, the infected person is a 30-year-old who returned from West Africa. Government authorities declare that they have taken measures to control the spread and test anyone who may have come into contact with the individual.
