The new European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, will make her first visit to Albania at the start of February. In a report in the European Parliament, Kos said she hopes Albania and Montenegro will join the European Union by 2030.

A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in Vlora in what is believed to be an incident related to organised crime. The victim, who has a criminal record, is suspected by police of being involved in a conflict between two families in the town of Rreshen.

Within 24 hours, two shipments of one thousand tonnes of contraband diesel have been seized in Durres. The diesel came from Tunisia, and 13 people have been arrested. Police say they have declared two people wanted in connection with the trafficking as wanted.

The cycling race “Giro d’Italia” will occur throughout 340 kilometres of Albanian territory. A day earlier in Rome, the project in which Albania is participating for the first time was presented. Prime Minister Edi Rama, present at the ceremony, said that this is an excellent opportunity to present Albania in the international arena.
