On the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, delivered a message emphasizing the importance of historical memory to learn from the past and to ensure that the evil caused by ideology, politics, and human hatred based on faith or ethnicity is never repeated.

“The monstrous crimes of genocide, the Holocaust against the Jewish people, the extermination of millions of people driven by cruelty and diabolical hatred against others because of their faith or ethnicity, are the darkest chapter that will forever weigh on humanity’s conscience.
We remember these horrific crimes so they remain in our memory and that of the entire world as evidence of where political degradation and blindness to totalitarian ideologies can lead,” wrote the President in his message.

The Head of State also recalled the assistance Albanians provided to the Jewish people and their stance on the right side of history.
