The chief political analyst of Israel’s Channel 12 News, Yedioth Ahronot, has made a post on his social media platform, X, stating that Albania might host 100,000 residents from Gaza.
He writes that the Trump administration is in talks with the government in Tirana about the migration of up to 100,000 Gaza residents to Albania.
“Next stop – Albania? The Trump administration is in negotiations with the government in Tirana regarding the migration of up to 100,000 Gaza residents to the country. Israeli sources believe that Egypt and Jordan will refuse to host refugees and claim that options like Albania and Indonesia are more feasible,” reads the post by the journalist from Yedioth Ahronot.
If this proposal materializes, Albania would be the fourth country to accept such refugees, following its acceptance of the Iranian opposition, Afghan migrants after the Taliban returned to power, and illegal immigrants transferred by Italy to the port of Shëngjin.
This development is expected to spark broad debate in Albania concerning housing capacities and the social and political consequences that such a decision might entail, while Albanian authorities have yet to offer an official reaction to these reports.
