Albania has taken on a €650 million loan with a 10-year repayment term. The Eurobond was issued on the London Stock Exchange and is the second to be signed with a 10-year maturity, following the one in 2021, when €650 million was also borrowed.
A portion of the funds has been requested by the government to cover the budget deficit projected for 2025, while the rest will be used to refinance the Eurobond issued in 2018.
This marks the seventh time that Albania has borrowed from international markets. The most recent issuance was in 2023 when the country secured €600 million.
The first Eurobond was issued in 2010, amounting to €300 million, a debt that has since been settled.
The second issuance took place in 2015, with €450 million, followed by the third in 2018. In 2020, the Ministry of Finance issued a €650 million Eurobond, and a year later, in 2021, the fifth Eurobond was issued under nearly identical conditions and value as that of 2020.
