A planned strike at several Greek border points will halt vehicle movement on February 28, according to sources from the Albanian border police at Qafë Botë.
The strike, organized following the tragic accident in Tempi that claimed 57 lives, will start at 08:00 and last until 24:00, according to Greek time.
According to the latest information, at the Greek Customs of Mavromati, no vehicles will be allowed to cross the border checkpoint except for ambulances and funeral cars. This means that vehicles will be blocked, but pedestrians crossing from the Albanian side at Qafë Botë to the Greek side at Mavromati will be allowed to continue their journey on foot after document checks.
Additionally, the Border Police in Gjirokastër has announced that customs operations at the Kakavija border crossing will be halted on February 28. Due to the Greek customs officers’ strike at Kakavija, only pedestrian movement will be allowed from 07:00 to 23:00, according to Albanian time. During this period, all vehicle movement will be blocked except for medical emergencies.
Furthermore, the Border Police has been notified by Greek authorities about vehicle restrictions during the same day and time due to the strike. Only pedestrians, perishable goods transport vehicles, and vehicles with medical emergencies will be allowed to pass.
These Greek-imposed restrictions are expected to significantly impact border traffic and cause disruptions for travelers and economic operators who rely on cross-border trade between the two countries.
