With over 90% of postal votes counted from the February 9 parliamentary elections in Kosovo, Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) leads with more than 51% of the vote, exceeding 28,000 votes, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).
The results so far show the following ranking:
- Lidhja Demokratike e Kosovës (LDK) follows with over 30%
- Partia Demokratike e Kosovës (PDK) holds over 9%
- The coalition of Aleanca për Ardhmërinë e Kosovës (AAK) – Nisma has over 3%
The counting of postal votes began on February 28, after the CEC approved more than 63,000 envelopes containing ballots. This process is expected to conclude by the end of the day, after which the counting of conditional votes and votes from persons with disabilities will begin.
Based on the current results, which include votes cast within Kosovo, those from diplomatic missions, and postal votes, no party has secured enough seats to govern alone.
To achieve a parliamentary majority, a party or coalition needs at least 61 deputies in the 120-seat Assembly of Kosovo.
- Vetëvendosje currently holds 48 seats
- Its leader, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has vowed to form the government independently
The opposition parties, except for Nisma, have ruled out forming a coalition with Vetëvendosje.
The vote counting process is now in its fourth week, and the CEC is expected to certify the final results by mid-March.
Analysts suggest that several scenarios remain possible for forming the next government.
