The Democratic Party will compete in the 11 May elections with a coalition with 26 other parties called “Alliance for a Greater Albania”. Part of this coalition will be the parties led by Ilir Meta who is currently in prison, Fatmir Mediu, Vangjel Dule, Agron Duka and Shpëtim Idrizi. Meanwhile, the Socialist Party, headed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, will run alone with no coalition.

Today at midnight the deadline for registering voters from the diaspora closes. This process is taking place for the first time in the history of Albanian elections. A total of 285 thousand citizens requested to vote, of these, some 227 thousand citizens had their requests approved, while about 43 thousand others were rejected due to problems with documents.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is expected to visit Kosovo on March 11 for the first time since taking office. Rutte and NATO ambassadors are expected to meet with the heads of the military mission in Kosovo. The visit comes at a time when there has been media speculation regarding the continuation of the US military mission in Kosovo.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has again refused to testify at the Special Prosecution Office regarding an investigation into the abuse of state reserves. Kurti stated that prosecutors could go and question him at his office. Meanwhile, in a press release, the Prosecution said that it will implement the law, which provides for fines or police escorts in cases where the witness does not appear.
