The registration process for the Albanian diaspora who want to vote on May 11 closed on Tuesday evening. About 234 thousand citizens have the right to vote, while the documents of about 17 thousand others who applied within the deadline are still being verified. The number of registered emigrants is about 15% of the total voters in the upcoming elections.

Prime Minister Edi Rama says that the Socialist Party will not only win the 4th governing mandate, but will remain in power until the country becomes part of the European Union. Just days ago, Rama said he hopes Albania will join the EU in the next two years.

The World Tourism Organization ranks Albania as a country with one of the greatest increases in the number of tourists for 2024. According to the data, Albania saw an increase of 80%, ahead of countries such as Saudi Arabia with 69% and Colombia with 37%.

Kosovo’s request to be a special guest in the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has been removed from the agenda. The approval of Kosovo’s request was opposed by Serbia and the delegations of Spain and the European People’s Party. For several years, Kosovo has been seeking to be part of the Council of Europe, but efforts have been opposed by Serbian lobbying.
