The Austrian Embassy in Tirana has shared a post on its official Facebook page, reaffirming Austria’s strong commitment to Albania’s EU accession negotiations.

During a meeting between Austrian ambassadors from the Western Balkans region, discussions focused on the fight against corruption and organized crime.

The embassy emphasized that ensuring the independence of SPAK (Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime) in investigating, prosecuting, and adjudicating corruption cases is crucial for strengthening the rule of law in Albania.

“A few months ago, the path for Albania’s comprehensive EU accession negotiations was opened. Austria remains fully committed to Albania’s EU perspective and is actively supporting, among other initiatives, the implementation of justice reform.

Thus, Austrian ambassadors from the Western Balkans region exchanged ideas with representatives from SPAK during their conference in Tirana.

The independence of SPAK in conducting investigations, prosecutions, and trials of high-level corruption and organized crime cases is essential for reinforcing the rule of law in Albania,” the post stated.
