The number of mothers with three or more children increased in 2024, as reflected in the growing list of women benefiting from the government’s social package for social and health insurance coverage.
This government initiative, which came into effect on January 1, 2023, aims to support mothers with multiple children who are unable to work, by providing them with insurance that will count toward their future pensions.
“In 2024, we have around 9,700 beneficiary mothers, and compared to 2023, there are about 1,200 new recipients. Naturally, the women who benefited in 2023 continue to receive it until their youngest child turns five,” said Anxhela Bakiasi, Head of Project Sector at the Social Services Agency.
What are the criteria and duration for a woman to receive insurance while caring for her children?
“A woman who is unemployed, has three or more children under the age of 18—where the youngest is under 5 years old—and a monthly family income of up to 900,000 ALL, qualifies for an insurance period lasting until her youngest child turns five,” Bakiasi explained.
Applications can be submitted as soon as the third child is born. The process is completed online through the e-Albania platform, where applicants also receive notification about whether they qualify for the benefit.
