Mark Antony Samson, a 23-year-old man, has confessed to the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Ilaria Sula — a student of Umbrian origin who was killed in Rome. He stated during a five-hour-long interrogation before the investigating judge that the crime was not premeditated.
Prosecutors are charging Samson with aggravated intentional homicide and concealment of a corpse, after he attempted to dispose of Ilaria’s body. Initially, he placed her body inside a suitcase and later dumped it in a ravine.
“I killed Ilaria on the morning of April 26,” Samson said before correcting himself, confirming that the murder took place on the morning of March 26 after they had spent the night together.
According to his statement, Ilaria had come to his apartment on Via Homs, in the Africano neighborhood, on the evening of the 25th to return some of his clothes. She ended up staying late and chose to sleep over to avoid traveling by public transport late at night.
Samson explained that their relationship had recently ended after several months marked by ups and downs.
“I did it all myself,” said the Filipino man. When asked by the investigating judge about the involvement of his parents, who were home at the time, he invoked his right to remain silent.
He admitted to loading the body into a car after sealing it inside a suitcase and abandoning it in a ravine. The 23-year-old also confessed to cleaning the scene of the attack.
