Prime Minister Edi Rama announced in a Facebook post that he will travel to Brussels on Monday for the opening of a new cluster of chapters in the framework of Albania’s EU accession negotiations.
According to Rama, the meeting will take place as part of the Fourth Negotiation Conference with the EU. He emphasized that the goal is to conclude negotiations by 2027, making Albania ready for EU membership after that period.
In his post, Rama also took a jab at the opposition, writing: “So what did they say? No more chapter openings, huh?! Europe panicked over the narco-dictatorship, huh?! They didn’t even give me dinner because I behaved badly, huh?!”
He continued: “Eh eh eh… Monday in the EU for the Fourth Negotiation Conference and another round of chapter openings. These are the most intensive negotiations in the history of EU integration, and when you consider that Montenegro has been negotiating since 2012, while we started just last year, and our calendar aims to close in 2027 so we’ll be ready to join the EU, then you just have to say to the swamp’s political and media honxhobonxhos: this is a miracle of freedom. God bless Albania. God bless Europe.”
Rama’s statement comes in response to comments from opposition leader Sali Berisha, who claimed that Wednesday’s meeting in the European Parliament demonstrated the opposition’s support in Brussels.
“Edi Rama’s European passport was torn apart. His deceit with the European passport has ended,” declared the PD leader on Thursday.
On Thursday, a hearing session was held in the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the political situation in Albania ahead of the May 11th elections.
