A total of 1.3 million euros in transactions were carried out in the European currency during the first three months of this year. The value is 20% higher than last year, with 81,000 transactions completed in total.
The report from the Bank of Albania confirms that March recorded the highest level of transactions both in number and in value, which is also linked to the increased number of tourists visiting Albania during the spring season.
Officially, the increased euro influx is attributed to tourism flows, remittances, and investments, particularly in real estate purchases.
During the early months of this year, the euro continued to trade below the 100 lek threshold.
For this year, the central bank plans to withdraw around 350 million euros from the market to strengthen foreign currency reserves and help stabilize the exchange rate.
It’s worth noting that 2024 closed with a record volume of euro transactions, reaching 5.2 billion euros, which represents a 31% increase in transfers compared to 2023.
