President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has congratulated CDU leader Friedrich Merz after he was elected Chancellor of Germany, KosovaPress reports.

Through a post on social media platform X, Osmani said she looks forward to working with Merz to advance Kosovo’s rightful path toward EU and NATO membership.

“On behalf of the people of Kosovo, I congratulate Chancellor Friedrich Merz on his new role and the German Government as it begins its mandate. At a crucial moment for Europe’s unity and security, Germany’s continued leadership is more important than ever. As one of Kosovo’s most important allies, we look forward to strengthening our partnership and working together to advance Kosovo’s path to EU and NATO membership,” Osmani wrote.

CDU leader Friedrich Merz secured 325 votes in the second round in the Bundestag—nine more than the required majority of 316.
With this vote, Merz becomes the tenth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In the secret ballot, he received 325 votes in favor, surpassing the needed threshold, as the CDU/CSU and SPD coalition together holds 328 seats in the parliament.
