Demand for accommodation in Albania’s southern tourist areas has reached high levels, exceeding the current capacity of available hotel infrastructure.
Due to growing interest—especially after the opening of the new airport in Vlora—there has been a significant influx of tourists, pushing demand toward alternatives such as Airbnb, guesthouses, and rental apartments.
“This level of demand is unsustainable if we rely solely on hotels. There has been a sharp increase in Airbnb listings and alternative accommodations, which have somewhat eased the situation, but overall, capacity remains insufficient to handle this tourist wave,” said Rrahman Kasa, head of the Albanian Tourism Union.
The most sought-after destinations include the southern coastal bay and the city of Vlora, where there is a pronounced lack of standard accommodation facilities that meet international operators’ criteria.
Tourism experts suggest that immediate investment is needed to build new accommodation structures in order to meet growing demand and maintain international market confidence.
