As Albania’s 2021 legislature wraps up, not all MPs returned to Parliament with the same outlook—especially many from the opposition, a significant number of whom will not be part of the new session starting this September.

Some deputies are already planning life beyond politics:

  • Ferdinant Xhaferraj said, “When I had the moral ground to ask Berisha to step back, I had to lead by example. I’ve always said I had no political ambition.”

  • Nasip Naço will return to his previous profession as a lawyer: “I’ll continue practicing law. Everything has an end, and I believe this is the end of my political journey.”

  • Enkelejd Alibeaj won’t remain active in politics but hopes to join the public debate as a media analyst: “I won’t be in active politics, but if you [media] accept me, I’ll join the public conversation.”

  • Edona Bilali, despite controversy during her campaign in Shkodra, stands by her choices: “He’s a comedy actor. I just think Tirana isn’t quite ready for this kind of humor yet.”

  • Andia Ulliri, though she didn’t secure a seat, hasn’t given up hope: “Since mandate certification is still ongoing, I’ll wait for the CEC’s final decision on mandate distribution.”

  • Monika Kryemadhi expressed no regrets, reiterating her future lies in cinema: “I feel no remorse because the parliamentary seat doesn’t belong to me or anyone—it’s movable. Film is another part of life and very exciting.”

With 82 MPs not returning in September, the new Parliament formed from the May 11 elections marks a significant shift in the Albanian political landscape.
