Shaip Kamberi, the only ethnic Albanian representative in the Serbian Parliament, announced on Tuesday that he has decided to boycott future sessions of the Serbian Parliament as a protest against what he described as a political and institutional crisis in the country, and the lack of political will to uphold human and minority rights — particularly those of Albanians in the Presevo Valley.
In a Facebook post, Kamberi outlined several reasons behind his decision, stating that “under these circumstances, I will not participate in the upcoming sessions of the Serbian Parliament.”
“A truly pro-European society can only be built by guaranteeing equal conditions and dignified treatment for everyone — including Albanians,” he wrote.
Kamberi added that a pro-European society “cannot be built on myths of the past, historical fabrications, or ambitions of hegemony in the Western Balkans.”
His announcement comes just two days after a massive anti-government protest in Serbia, attended by thousands of demonstrators and marked by clashes with police.
