The President of the Republic Ilir Meta has written an official letter to the diplomatic corps in the country, the Speaker of the Assembly, and the Central Election Commission denouncing the alleged attack against the New Democratic Spirit party (FRD).
According to the president, who was present at the moment of the altercation between FRD representatives and municipal law enforcement authorities, the attack was well-organized because it occurred after the party signed an agreement to join in a coalition with opposition forces.
Meta emphasized that the brutal act goes against democratic principles, rule of law, and cohabitating political environment that should be representative of the pre and post-electoral period.
“This attack is another indicator of the completely irresponsible and provocative behavior of the majority, which aims to harm the constitutional and legal activities of this political force participating in the elections, but at the same time an evidence of its systematic efforts to undermine political pluralism in the country”, the president wrote.
The head of state listed the facts which according to him clearly indicate that all the moves of the Mayor of Tirana against FRD are against the law.
Regarding the incident that took place between him and the municipal authorities, Meta said that he went to the party’s headquarters to halt arbitrary acts, adding that the municipal workers impeded him from exercising his activity as head of state.
